LinguAnime Privacy Policy

What we collect

LinguAnime is designed to operate entirely within your browser. We do not run servers that collect, store, or process your data.

• Saved vocabulary words are stored locally in your browser via Chrome's storage.local API. If you have a Pro subscription, they're stored in storage.sync so they sync across devices where you're signed into Chrome — Google handles this storage, not us.
• Subtitle text and timing are fetched in real time from Crunchyroll's servers using your existing logged-in session, processed in your browser, and discarded when you close the tab. We never see this data.
• Translations are requested from Google Translate's public endpoint and MyMemory. Your queries (the subtitle text being translated) go directly from your browser to those services. We do not log or proxy these requests.
• Subscription status, if you upgrade to Pro, is managed by ExtensionPay (a third-party Stripe wrapper). We receive only a boolean "paid: true/false" and your email address from ExtensionPay's getUser() API. Payment details are processed by Stripe and never touch our systems.

What we don't do

• We do not collect analytics, tracking pixels, fingerprints, or telemetry.
• We do not have a server-side database of users, watch history, or vocabulary.
• We do not sell, share, or transfer any data to third parties (except as listed above for the services that make the extension function).
• We do not redistribute Crunchyroll's content. Subtitles are fetched only from your authenticated session and only displayed to you.

Permissions explained

• storage — saving your vocabulary list and preferences locally.
• activeTab — knowing when you're on a Crunchyroll watch page.
• Host permissions for crunchyroll.com and crunchyrollcdn.com — fetching subtitle metadata from your authenticated session.
• Host permissions for translate.googleapis.com and api.mymemory.translated.net — sending subtitle/word text for translation.
• Host permissions for extensionpay.com — managing your Pro subscription.
